求IT运维的朋友们帮忙推荐个工作（IT Support，DBA）

来了这里两三周，喜欢这里平静的生活，打算在这里长期呆下去。
本人已工作多年，最近五年在IBM工作，任职Oracle DBA
之前的几年在集成商那里做IT Support，AIX，HP-UX，Solaris和Linux日常的维护没有问题。
PC Server和小型机的硬件安装和配置，常见的存储和备份软件维护没有问题。

IBM的工作分工很细，所以系统那块这几年摸得少，不过基础都在，上手很快。
不挑工作，系统和DB都可以做，做事认真，人好相处。

英语口语弱一些，雅思口语部分只有5-5.5分。
国内和国外的客户沟通大部分是通过企业聊天工具和邮件，这些是没有问题的。

这个周末回去办理离职手续，6月份回来，到时候会报个班提高下口语。
投了简历基本都石沉大海，所以目前的打算是一边找着一边准备申请GD的课程。

如果有圈内的朋友，有机会还请帮忙推荐下，初来咋到确实不太容易，这里多谢了。

你这个签证不能工作啊. 正规公司没人会请你的. 即使是学生签, 最多也只能工作20小时一周, 一般用到你所说技术的公司也不会请你. 等你毕业拿一年工签后再说吧. 期间好好练口语.

不是有经验的程序员的话, 这年头IT也不好找工作了.

找工作有时候需要点运气。这里用大型机器的公司不多，那熟悉大型机器的也不多，你的经验就是亮点。祝好运。

英语口语的提高需要一个环境，一方面需要自己练，另一方面最好有人给你矫正，特别是面对面的口音矫正，进步才会明显。

Nice to see you here

I bought a used ibm x3650 m3 server. The startup time is quite slow and takes around two minutes which is slower than my supermicro server. I google on internet and everyone said it is slow.

Do you know anyway to speedup the ibm server startup?

影响不大的，我是维护为主，基本不涉及开发的工作

主要喜欢这里平静的生活，如果实在找不到，毕了业会考虑去澳洲。
那边机会多，但不是很感兴趣

Dear, for PC Servers, usually the startup time is more than 2 minutes if there are many adapters, processors or memory modules, and the boot test is more complicate than personal PCs.
It is acceptable as such servers are rebooted very rarely in production environment.

Maybe, in the BIOS configuration interface, you could turn off or tune something to accelerate it.

Thanks for the reply.
I want to save money. I don't want to run the server 24 hours a day. I start the sever every day. It is quite annoying to get the startup time more than 2 minutes. My supermicro server is really good to run just like pc :-)

I am using supermicro as production server now. I just leave the ibm x3650 m3 server as a test server.

The companies I work in nz since 1998 always use non experienced graduates to do technical support. I guess the support is not high priority for the companies.

I guess that if I were you, I will move to cloud platform. That is a hot area. I guess most companies will go to cloud i.e. amazon aws ec2, microsoft azure to not do co-location/in house trouble. Brand new lenovo 2u server cost at least nzd5,000 http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=c&p=servers for that price it is just a basic server with one cpu with some memory. You have to pay more to get server fully equipped. That is the reason I buy used server which is a bargain. :-) For production use, company needs support and I guess they have to buy brand new servers to get three years warranty, onsite support etc.
It is the same for amazon aws ec2 vs co-location for the linux maintenance. No learning curve for you I guess. The nice part for you is amazon aws ec2 does not have support from amazon. The user have to go to amazon forum to get support which I guess the user will hire someone in company to do support themselves.

Of course public cloud is more dear for big companies with constant load i.e. web server

I am using free amazon aws ec2 server locates in Singapore and I have two pc servers at home. I like amazon aws ec2 server as it does not cost me any money. :-) I wrote an application running in ubuntu linux instance to grab nz/chinese dollar currency information from multiple websites and generate an html page as a static file for nginx web server. I wrote an android application to show the html page. This way it is faster to open multiple websites in my android phone chrome browser to get that currency information. You know how much trouble to open multiple websites in the phone browser. It requires at least 10 clicks and wait at least 20 seconds to get multiple web pages show the information to open multiple web page. For me to get that information, all I need to do is open my android app and the information is shown on my phone. The response time is 200ms. All it takes is the android phone which is in Auckland download the html page from nginx server in singapore.  The performance is excellent for my application. I don't want to put this app at home as I don't want it to run 24x7. It will cost me each hour 120w electricity. It is around 2 units a day equal to 52cents everyday if I want to run in my home. I get it free from amazon. Thank you amazon :-)

But my ibm x3650 m3 server has 2 l5620 24 virtual cpu with 48gb ram and my supermicro server 2 e5640 cpu 16 virtual cpu with 40gb ram. It is very powerful for my ubuntu linux setup.  To get the same power from amazon aws ec2, it will cost me lots of money each month. :-) It cost me around nzd1,000 to get these two servers and cisco 24 gigabit ports 3 layer switch. :-)

I guess it is ok. If a company want to hire the person and pass market labor test, the immigration nz will give the person 6 months to 3 years work permit which is plenty of time to apply nz residence.

I know that is I have a visitor visa coming here 1998 and get a work permit and nz residence permit and nz pr and nz citizen and nz passport. Such a long time and 18 years I live in auckland. :-)

1998年IT人才很少, 而现在遍地都是. 越来越多的国内有经验IT过来读个一年的短平快GD, 拿了open工签就开始找工作了. 新西兰岗位就这么多, 架不住中国印度这样IT大国的人才输出的. 话说2009年前, IT类本科以上毕业都直接给绿卡的. 时代不同了.

从其他应聘者角度考虑, 除非楼主是通过人际关系内部推荐递的简历, 否则, 通过公开招聘渠道登出来的广告一定是出一个投一个的. 楼主竞争对手包括了其他已经毕业了的和他一样有经验的或没经验的应届生以及已经在新西兰工作了一段时间想跳槽的人. 无论从什么角度考虑, 楼主都不是属于竞争力强的那一类.

从老板角度考虑, 如果有另外一个应聘者, 揣着合法签证, 技术能力差不多, 英语说不定还更好一点(楼主5.5的确太寒碜一点了), 老板当然会直接忽略楼主了.

不过, 楼主也不要灰心. 多多练习面试英语. 说不定运气就来了.

No, it was hard for me that time. It cost me 6 months to land a job in delphi programming job in 1998. I brought usd5000 american traveller checque coming to nz. I spent most of the money before I land the job. I tried to save money and stay in a backpackers with 20+ people in one room. That was most hard time for me in my life. I hope that I don't experience that in future.
I have around 4 years Visual C++ MFC programming experience at that time. It is the only time in my life to have a 6 months gap. I used to have no trouble finding programming jobs. I usually say bye bye to my previous employer and the next day work for my next employer. I have 21 years programming experience now :-) I guess that I will continue to program till my age 65 years old. I hope that I can still find job at that age. :-)

知道自己的弱点在哪里，就现在来说，也只是尝试下，不指望很快找到，碰运气的成分居多。

有和这里的一些人聊过，签证是个问题，因为面试想了解一个人很难，很多公司不愿意麻烦。
何况很多人有合适的条件，没必要选择我这不符合基本条件的。
加上英语确实很差，被选中的概率就更低了些，所以目前基本不报什么希望，做的准备更多是为了明年的。
从国内来的时候是希望能有那么一两个面试机会就行，不指望成功，主要是看看是否喜欢这里。
现在对这里有些初步的了解，算是基本达到来这里的目的。
工作方面已经改变了前面的想法，做的是更长远的准备，一边学习，一边提高，一边找着，心态要淡定很多。

其实感觉这两年这里的IT发展还算可以，前面几年发展好像慢一些。

口语是我很头疼的，希望借助NZ这里的环境和自己的努力，可以慢慢先提高到满足日常交流的地步 :)

Thanks a lot for your kind advice, and I do consider to learn something about the Cloud Computing, particularly, the Amazon AWS platform.
Within a short time, I will enhance my Oracle tuning skills continually. After that, I will begin to touch the Amazon AWS.
I did not major in IT filed, so the GD course is suitable for me, and give myself one year to have a rest and enough time to learn something.

For you and your two servers, I have to say it is uncommon to find a guy like you owning two PC servers at home, while they are perfect servers if you want to build complicate test environments or to learn visualization infrastructures, and the latter must be used widely in the present and near future.

I also like PC servers, while just bought a HP Microserver Gen8, a much smaller one. :)

I did not expect you have been working so many years.

Finding the first job in NZ is a real challenge, and I have changed my mind in the past few days.
I made a long plan and will make it true step by step.

I want to learn big data to get higher salary. I want to get nzd 180k per year income. I want to be a data scientist. It seems a bottle neck for me to get the salary higher than nzd120k per year as a c# asp.net mvc programmer.

I learn a lot of ubuntu linux since I bought my own servers.
I cannot use amazon aws ec2 free instance to learn big data. I have to buy my own server to learn big data. At least that I can keep the server instead of wasting money on amazon aws large instance.
