Ian Wrigley： I think people are guilty of generalising "Asians" and its not on. China has problems with the quality of its milk powder and formula. As a parent of two lovely boys I can understand why they would want our products as we actually have health and safety standards maintained. My boys are breast fed but thats not an option for everyone, so if you have to go to formula you would want it to not kill your kids eh? I think there is a few options here, starting with tidying up manufacturing standards in their plants in China so that the local product meets code - and if there is such demand for the NZ goods then great, increase production, make more jobs for kiwis! The supermarkets do need to enforce a 3 can limit though, thats enough formula for weeks. Nobody needs to buy 12 cans at a time.
Nassey Pohatu： See now this is the good thing about asians. They like to make money and go hard working on it. Others just want to make money ripping people off. Least they are exporting OUR brands rather then importing their brands and selling for twice the price. If they were stealing our produce and sending if off shore then yeah thats something to cry about. I'm glad they are exporting. In China they dont allow NZ dairy in, also in Japan too. So these people are getting it on the side selling it probably black market over there. Oh well... Better then the crap they giving their babies over there aye. My son is on formula and ive never seen the super market run out of it! Even wit my oldest.
Michelle McGuire： NZ isn't the only country to produce formula, so China should be attempting to get supplied by countries much bigger than little old NZ. As a mother with 3 children and being unable to breastfeed, it is parents like me that stress out about not being able to provide for my family when it's necessary, and that's wrong for a country of our calibar! NZ needs to look after their own country/families before they start screwing over the NZ population! I understand why they're doing it, but I don't agree with the consequences of the actions of some. NZ kids need it too, and it was produced here, so it should be provided to NZs population first and foremost.
Carter Hawkins： Wait yeah that is strange for someone within New Zealand to export large quantities for monetary gain. That is unheard of in this country. (I should point out that I am speaking ironically if that wasn't clear enough). Campbell Live is clearly running out of stories considering this is the second time this has been brought up. Like any other product in our stores if there is high demand then you need to get in first. Also there is this weird other option known as breast feeding. Apparently after someone has a baby they have access to milk that their baby needs. But yeah, supply and demand is a basic concept and if you don't get there first then you don't get what you want
Dayna Hayward： New Zealand babies should come before overseas babies asian or otherwise (I think race is irrelavent) But saying that if I had family in the same situation I think I would try to help them out by sending it overseas. These people are just trying to protect what is theirs. However the huge exports just for monetary gain is diguisting!
Jo Turnwald： Not entirely sure what bed sharing has to do with infant formula being exported to China. And also not sure how NZ gets blame for Chinese women being told formula is better than breast. Maybe they need to look a little closer to home there. NZ is just providing a premium safe product, supply/demand. Nothing new really.
Peter Skilton： Our neighbours been doing the milk formula for over a year and we live in a small dead end street and have trucks coming and going and blocked plus they doing this until 1-2am most nights which is annoying in a residential area.
Sarah Kearns： I just got back from there and I tell you thats not how it is at all. They want nz products because they beleive they are superior and especially after their tainted milk debacle that is hardly surprising and also not all women here or there can breast feed. I used formula and i have a very healthy seven year old now. Breast nazis alright. Try going to China and seeing what it is like for yourself... I DID.
Colleen Bourne： Formula has a very valid place in many third world countries where babies are malnourished because their mother is starving. It has to be a special low protein formula (invented by a NZ scientist) because the babies can't digest the full protein stuff, and have trouble with the breast milk as well as mother and baby are often both ill from malnutrition. China is not like this, they have a preference for NZ product because it is safer than their local stuff, we regulate our industry and China does not have the safe guards we do. Can't blame them for wanting the best for their baby, but NZ babies should get first dibs on NZ made product. Stock our shops up and then sell the surplus overseas. |
