我凭我的认识帮大家弄一个新生（BSc major in statistics）选课的策略

Yr 1：S1: stats 101, math 150,math162,+GE
      S2: cs101, math 250, stats125, +GE
================
做一个留后路型的，如果你不确定想不想读stat，又想学cs的话，可以这样

Yr: S1, stats 101, maths 150, cs 101 +GE
   S2, cs 105, cs 225, maths 250 + GE

====================

Yr 2: SS: stats 208
      S1: stats  210, stats 255, maths 253,stats 220
      S2: stats 330, stats 370, stats 325, math 260
Yr 3: SS: stats 301
      S1: stats 310,  stats 326，stats 341
      S2: stats 351, maths 340, maths 270

这样就完成一个stats major并且有足够的学分读hon了。

有什么建议，再讨论。

That list certainly give you a good background in stats. But if you are going to do so many maths papers, why you don't take 1 more stage 3 maths paper to get a major in pure maths?

good point,我以前就这样，两个major，但是再读post的话会觉得以前学的不够多。

From what I know, it is not a good idea to do GE in your first year unless you are 100% certain it's something you won't do in the future. This is because normally by taking a GE paper, it imposes restriction against what papers you may take in the future (eg. taking stats101G will restrict you from doing further stats and maths papers, maybe compsci too) While for stats101G you can convert it into a non-G paper, but not all GE paper are offered like that (eg. sportsci100G, it is not available as a non-G paper, so if you ever do sportsci or psych or bio after you done sportsci100G, then your sportsci100G will be gone)

If you want to be a Stats hardcore you can actually do postgrad courses in your third year. I lived it but I don't really recommend an overly focused study in your Bachelor degree. Especially for stats, it's very useful, yet completely useless at the same time if you don't have an actual area (medical, finance, market research, bussiness, biology, physics, psychology...) to apply on. So do use the GE as an opportunity to develop your second interest.

Doing more computing will be good even you're not heading towards a computer science degree. For one thing, computer scientists struggle without a computer, but statisticians can't live without one...

剛進學校的時候 s1沒讀stats108

所以現在stats的課讀得有點慢

還剩很多要讀

Wouldn't it be better for someone to do more stage 3 in their undergrad so they have a wider range of papers to choose from when they do their Hon year? Since I know most stage 7 are based on the stage 3 courses.

I was, but that's before you became a varsity student. And man, doing that many stats paper is actually a curse if you become an assistance room tutor. I also worked in the lab for some time too but can't do that now. Too much happening with this one thing in life...

I tend to keep a low profile, especially on the net. So the chances are, you wouldn't know me until you know me ^O^

I used to talk to the cleaners a lot, especially the older man (because I had known him for so many years {in a way a

}), but to avoid being further blacklisted by the securities I tend to go home earlier these days.

Those securities are just carrying out their jobs, and in fact most of them are very nice. I've no complaints.

Would I see you around in the stats department? I might be a marker this semester, although David Smith said there is no chance for me as a tutor, since there are people with like 6 stage 3 A+ in stats and still didn't get the job.

Don't worry, you got the experience already, so I don't think you will have problems coming back as a tutor if you wanted to.

723+702,但是以你这个数学基础（除非你自己学了更高级的数学），学723会相当吃力。

726学的是time series。它利用数学公式去分析time series，不紧紧用R去分析。

702是新课，不知道将会如何。我想可以这样举个例子吧，分析ASX和NZX指数和交易量之间的关系，考虑他们的相关性。

Thanks to dk7 to speak for tutors (I have to agree, people did a wide range of 3xx papers and being a tutor is not easy.)

One thing I have to say though, there will be no more stats341 or stats351 next year (2010), instead, it goes back to stats340 (modified version though), and there will be one more Bayesian paper coming on second semester of 2010.
