Getting Darker (1 minute exposure)

And darker (3.5 minutes exposure)

now completely dark and i almost can't see anything (5 minutes exposure)

再问一个问题，在海边曝光那么久，怎么去稳定照像机？海边那么大风，就算有脚架照像机还是会被吹动的啊

脚架够重就行，不够重的可以吊些沙袋之类的东西

yes yes just hang a heavy bag or something on your tripod, and if you can , get a good tripod too as they are a lot more solid and stable.

Should be okay. but i suggest you get a friend to go with you, just play safe as i always feel a bit scary when i carry expensive camera gears walking alone in the dark.

And just in case you fall down the cliff or something and your friend can call the police for you.

Went up to Mt. Victoria on Mid Autumn Festival and took pics of the city (and the moon). I used a very heavy tripod already but amongst the 20 odd photos I took, only 2 or 3 were acceptable. Others became an art by nature (the wind). That was even when I stood in front of the tripod (and just next to the len, surely) as a shield and received strange looks during the course. Thought it's the problem with the rotatable joints, but since there's hard evidence from yellowS15 now I'd give it a try next time.

most of the picture above was taken at 10-14mm focal length so maybe that's why i can still get a relative sharp image?

i think a good tripod will make definitely make the biggest difference as there is a lot less play in all the joints... my old tripod (a cheap $100 one) was probably heavier than my current tripod but it was almost not usable under big wind

oh and if it's windy, try NOT to raise the center column (if your tripod has one) at all as it'll increase the shaking of the camera a lot.
and yes i think try finding/creating a "less wind" position as you said is quite important too. Even those $2999US tripod will still shake if it's too windy

haaaaa

oh and another suggestions for those who want to go to muriwai and take sunset/night photos.. remember to bring a THICK coat with you even on a warm day, the temperature drops very fast after sunset... you definitely don't want to only wear a t-shirt and standing there waiting for those 5 minutes+ exposure photos.....;11;

My tripod is very similar to your old one - that might explain it.

Well the dramatic temperature drop is a common thing everywhere in New Zealand, and I did have a taste of that during that trip to Mt. Victoria. Still, we should be glad that we're not in Melbourne!!!
