Note: From 25 March 2021, any New Zealander who is returning to New Zealand for more than 90 days (or more than 180 days if they arrive after 1 June 2021), and who visits a quarantine-free travel country during that time, will not be liable for fees for their MIQ stay.

The term 'New Zealand citizen or resident' means NZ citizens (including those in the Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau) and residence class visa holders. It also includes Australian citizens and permanent residents who are ordinarily resident in NZ.

If you are a NZ citizen or resident you will be liable for a charge if:

you are returning to NZ

before June 1 2021 for a period of less than 90 days, or

after 1 June 2021 for a period of less than 180 days; or

you left NZ after the regulations came into effect (12.01am on 11 August 2020) and return at a later date.
