这道题出现在8年级的ICAS考题中，两个进水管和一个出水管，大的进水管需要3小时灌满水桶，小的进水管需要4小时灌满水桶，出水管需要8小时排空整个水桶，问三个水管一起开多少时间能灌满这个水桶。

“哎，水资源那么紧张，你灌水桶开排水管干吗呀！“

这道题我们可以用代数来解决，关键就是进水的速度，因为整个水桶的容量是不变的。我们设定水桶的容量是C。那么大的进水管的进水速度就是C/3，小的进水管进水速度就是C/4，出水管的排水速度就是C/8。
我们可以得到以下方程，三个水管一起开进水速度乘以时间等于水桶的容量。
（C/3+C/4-C/8）x 时间=C

解方程，得到时间是2小时11分。

Here is another strategy.

LCM (3 hrs, 4 hrs, 8 hrs) = 24 hrs

The large inlet takes 3 hours to fill one tank. So the large inlet can fill 8 tanks in 24 hours.

The small inlet takes 4 hours to fill one tank. So the small inlet can fill 6 tanks in 24 hours.

The outlet takes 8 hours to empty one tank. So the outlet can empty 3 tanks in 24 hours.

Overall, assume all the 3 pipes are opened, in 24 hours, we can fill in 8 + 6 - 3 = 11 tanks.

Then to fill in one tank, we need 24/11 hours = 24 x 60 / 11 minutes = 130.9 minutes = 131 minutes.
