新西兰的华人常问怎么才能种一颗橄榄树，能吃到橄榄果实。有的在本地买了一颗olive的树，结了果了，然后和群友们分享着中国橄榄的各种吃法。

他们吃的是橄榄吗？

欧洲人很早的时候在地中海地区发现了一种植物，把它叫做Olive。他们把它叫做Olive时，在他们的脑海里，应该是没有中国这种橄榄树概念的。可能不知道有这种树的存在，自然更不知道它的树和果实是什么模样。

中国橄榄树，和欧裔人士概念里的olive树，不同科，不同属，不同种，完全不同的两种树。中国橄榄树是指一个东西，olive是指另一个不同的东西，怎么能把olive翻译成橄榄树？
