Your 2017 IR3 income tax return
Everyone who earns money in New Zealand must pay their share of tax.
Taxpayers' money is used to pay for services we all need - such as
schools and hospitals.
Most people in New Zealand file their income tax return on time, you are now part of a small
minority that has not.
You need to file your IR3 income tax return now. The quickest and easiest way is through myIR
secure online services at www.ird.govt.nz/myIR, or you can mail it to us.
Some of the reasons you must file an IR3 income tax return may include you receiving:
· income with no tax deducted
· schedular payments (formerly withholding payments)
· income from an estate or trust
· overseas income which must be accounted for in New Zealand.

Not filing income tax returns is an offence and can result in legal action. If we do not hear from
you within 30 days from the date of this letter, we may:
· charge you a late filing penalty, and
· make our own assessment of the tax you should pay, and take action to collect the assessed
amount.
