“Shadowclad” is plywood cladding material manufactured by Carter Holt Harvey. The Ministry of Education has brought a legal proceeding alleging that Shadowclad used in certain school buildings is defective. We believe the issue may extend beyond school buildings, to homes and commercial buildings that contain the product.

We are seeking registrations of interest from owners of buildings constructed using Shadowclad plywood cladding. We are calling for registrations from owners of all such buildings, whether or not there have been problems or issues with the buildings.

If there is sufficient interest from owners with viable claims, we will be seeking compensation from the manufacturer through a class action which we expect to be fully funded.

The form should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete*.

Shadow clad 的设计本来不错，是经处理的木材。

可是因为生产时，木层间胶水工艺不易完美达标，还有木层本身的性质不连贯等原因，所以在长期受潮的情况下容易出现腐烂变形。损坏通常出现在连接处。

如果用涂上厚重的油性漆，并定期检查，可以大幅减低风险。

也就是说这种外墙材料，主要靠额外的油漆来保护，这么说的话，只要排水设计好，任何材料的外墙，只要靠油漆好，都没问题了，再不行上那种船的漆，MD板都可以当房屋外墙了。。。。。。。

Shadowclad的设计是符合外部使用的标准，例如H3.2。

但因为生产工艺没能达到设计的要求，所以使用寿命缩短。这是quality conformance 的问题。

对于任何外墙，良好的排水和油漆都能减少材料与水的接触，所以能够起到一定的保护作用。但不一定能够让内部材料长时间外用。

我是外行，只是如果新西兰的外墙材料，只是达到H3，2的处理标准，而没有其他方面的质量标准，比如牢固，形变等，其实并不会持续多少年。本身外墙材料面对的不仅仅是雨水，还要面对强烈的阳光，海洋含有盐的水汽，地震的房屋结构晃动。试想可以做浴室subfloor的plywood, H3.2, 18mm，的确可以用N年的寿命，可是如果用到外墙材料，简直是在搞笑。

听中介说过，新西兰的房子的特色是，建筑材料多种多样。但是建筑材料出现这么多历史问题，从以前的80年代的plumbing 管道，到著名的漏水房，我只想说，国家政策制定者的智商，真的相对来说比较low啊

structural plywood其实质量还是不错的。总的来说plywood漏水的没有plaster那么严重。
