Guess what? Your starting point is way better than me.
I am a EEE graduate from Auckland Uni too, however my GPA was pretty shit and i failed 2 papers every year, and my average grade every year was C-. After i graduated, i struggle to find any job for 9 months, did my MCSE intensive training, got my first job as desktop support, and i never look back since.
Today (18years later after i graduated from EEE), i work for one of the largest corporate in NZ, managing a team of 24. My current specialization mean i can get a job in any corner in the world if i want to (constantly being head hunted globally).
What i am trying to say is, you are the one that define your own path, it might be a rocky start, and life is never easy, don't give up and keep trying, and connect and talk to more people that's already in the industry, find an area that you are passionate about, and i am sure you can go way further than me in life.
Good luck, and let me know if you wanna chat over coffee? (i can potentially help review your CV, tell you more about what working in IT industry is like, and also a hiring manager's perspective, what we typically look for etc).
