Border control agents detained the specimen(s) indicated above on the 4th April 2015 at the Auckland International Mail Centre under section 39 (“Seizure of endangered species traded in contravention of Act”) of the Trade In Endangered Species Act 1989 (TIES Act).
New Zealand’s TIES Act implements the internationally-agreed Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which regulates trade in endangered species to ensure their long-term survival in the wild.
The specimen required a permit issued to be legally imported into New Zealand; in the absence of a valid permit, the specimen(s) were seized by the Department of Conservation. The pillows contained a herb called “Gastrodia”, a species of orchid. All orchids are protected under Schedule II of CITES. I have attached a scanned copy of the brochure that accompanied the pillows detailing the herbal ingredients used in the pillows. A brochure regarding CITES has also been attached to this email.作者: 1313xiaohua 时间: 2015-5-9 11:43:26
