A first home buyer says he feels "insulted" by an ad playing to overseas investors claiming that they could have New Zealanders giving them half their weekly wages to buy an apartment in Auckland.
The radio advertisement is talking up the benefits of buying property in New Zealand, calling it "an investors' dream".
Singapore's 90.5 Gold radio station plays the ad, asking listeners: "How would you like the people in New Zealand to give you around half their weekly wages?".
It goes on to say that an apartment in central Auckland can be snapped up for $390,000 and that "there's no stamp duty, land tax and generally no capital gains tax".
The ad, for All Property Solutions Singapore, says houses in New Zealand are "very affordable" and urges people to check out listings on its website.
House hunter Ivan Steward told ONE News the ad was insulting.
"To have someone treat Kiwis like we're just some sort of income-generating pleb class, it pisses me off a bit, it's really, really insulting."
