Hi Anyone here works or worked in Telecom before? How was the working environment and team relationship there? Good company to work for in Finance/accounting department?

每个branch，每个department都不一样，但是这种电信公司都是阿三比较多，上班期间你可以时不时闻点异味

from memory 30% of staff are on a total package of >$100,000. Just be aware that total package != base salary (a lot of them get allowance for being on call, on shift etc).

Telecom is still making profit, they are making less and less profit constantly each year, but they are not at the phase of losing money yet. I think 2013/2014 financial year was the first time that they manage to do enough to neutralize the decline of revenue drop.

I have been with Telecom 12 years +. Just like any other big company, it's pretty political, pretty slow moving. However the best part is, we do have many good/smart people in the company. One thing that you need to be aware of is, due to the industry that we are in, some people regard us as a sinking ship, we seem to go through restructure/re-org every 3-6 months or so. We been laying off quite a lot of people since 2-3 years ago.

Saying that, if you work in the critical part of the company, there's nothing to worry about. I know more than half of the asian that work in the company, if you are coming in for an interview IM me, i can ask around and see if there's still any asian that work in the finance department. (majority of us are in either support or IT).

恩，从新闻看不是亏损，只是盈利减少。

Telecom现在开始追赶2Degrees了，也搞19 20刀的prepaid，还打电话给我推销我要转。
不过2Degrees用不完可以carryover这个还是优势。

i was with telecom for 5yrs, did various roles. its a great company to work for and I had a great team to work in regardless which division. in general, sales team will get the most pay, I mean the sales team that deals with corporate or enterprise customers, not the retail or small businesses.... but there is no Chinese there, not even one! other than that, if you are extremely technical then you will be well rewarded too. in regards to finance or accounts, there are Chinese there, but at pretty low / average pay as far as I know....

1. Telecom is NOT making loss. Telecom still make about 300 million NZD net profit a year. I personally think it's still A LOT of money, but for whatever reason, shareholder / board of directors / CXOs all think this is very poor performanec and Telecom need do better.
2. This raise the second question, 'How'? In a more competitive telecommunication market, it's very hard to increase revenue. Therefor the only way is to cut spending - this means redundency.
3. As a result, Telecom NZ have a redundency every 3 month for the past year. Those that remain in organisation is still not safe, there is no ending to redundency in the foreseeable future.
4. There's plenty of cases where new employees in Telecom is made redundent shortly after join the company. But at least you get a generous redeundency pay out.
5. Overall, if you are looking for job and you ONLY have 1 job offer from Telecom, take it. If you have multiple offer or currently have a job and thinking of switch to Telecom, I won't recommand Telecom.

Yeah, I have multiple offer at the moment, but the telecom one is most temptating at the moment. I myself have gone throught at least 4 restructures already in my company and just looking for some different working experiences.

My current package is base salary + bonus though, which easilty get me over 10K. So I still want that level of salary for sure. I think I will go for the interview and see how it goes from there.
