Members of Parliament start on $148,000 a year.
Members of Parliament who chair a select committee are paid $162,000 a year.
Ministers outside Cabinet are paid $226,000 a year.
Ministers inside Cabinet are paid $268,000 a year.
The Prime Minister's salary is set at $428,000 a year.
Members of Parliament also get a yearly allowance to cover out-of-pocket expenses associated with their work, such as entertainment, meals and memberships.

Pay for local government representatives depends on their responsibilities, hours and the size of their council.
Community board members earn between $1,000 and $13,000 a year.
Local and regional councillors earn between $12,000 and $80,000, but are paid more for extra responsibilities.
Most mayors and regional council chairs earn between $46,000 and $160,000. The Mayor of Auckland is New Zealand's highest paid mayor and earns $251,000 a year.
