A branch of one of Auckland's largest Indian restaurant chains has been seeking part-time wait staff - but said only "girls" could apply.

The Masala chain has already been the subject of a Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment investigation for allegedly paying staff $4 an hour.

據我觀察，不謹只有 Msala 會做 $10 餐。現在Auckland 大部份印度餐館也做 $10 套餐。有些晚餐也做 $10套餐。

若以現在 minimum Wage $13.75 的話，假設他每個餐是 $2 材料成本，$2 廚師的成本, $2 是侍應的成本，$1.5 是餐具、租金等等. 保守估計一個餐的成本是 $7.5 ，一個餐才賺 $2.5，這簡直荒謬。所以印度餐館要生存的話，只能把成本壓到超低，這樣 $4 per hour 給待應便有理由了。所以我敢斷定，絕大部份的印度餐館都是低於 mininum wage 請人的。不然是絕不能生存。除非是家族小生意則另作別論。

这样的成本计算，那只能开夫妻老婆店了，赚个人工费。

印度民工的平均工資比中國民工低。很多傻啊三不知就裡被自己族人騙了也不奇怪。

Ponsonby bar defends 'jobs for girls' advert

In advertising for female staff, Ponsonby pub and Masala could both have breached act.

A popular Ponsonby bar has been caught out advertising jobs for women only, a day after the Herald revealed that Masala restaurant in Stanmore Bay had done the same.

Chapel Bar & Bistro posted an online ad saying: "We need female bar & floor staff at Chapel ... drop us an email if you or a friend needs a job."

Owner Luke Dallow said the ad was to be taken "tongue-in-cheek", but was worded that way because the central Auckland business was seeking gender balance.

The Human Rights Commission said both Masala and Chapel could be in breach of the Human Rights Act.

"Should the commission receive a complaint, it will be dealt with in the usual manner," a spokeswoman said.
