An empty commuter train jumped the track in Kawasaki early Sunday, slightly injuring its driver and conductor, railway officials said. The out-of-service train derailed after smashing into a maintenance carriage left lying on the line at Kawasaki at around 1 a.m. after the last train on the Tokyo-Yokohama commuter line had passed, officials said. The first and second cars of the 10-car train derailed on impact, trapping the only two men on board, but they were rescued later. The driver of the maintenance carriage, located about 100 meters from a platform of the station with a crane on board, was safe after jumping clear before the crash.
