hong Kong people are really funny. They consider themselves "civilized" and different to mainland china and then when they are hit with bad news they suck up to china and love to take credit for any positive attention china gets.

The woman who abused that worker is a MAINLANDER from China, NOT the local HKer. I understand for most people don't really care about the difference between those mainlanders and the REAL HKers. However, for us, it is a huge difference. Our educational background, cultural ,behavior and moral values are all different. We HKers are not perfect but will not be so bad in this way. Some of them maybe mean to their maids, but we will never abuse them in such way. Mainlanders NOT only abuse to maids BUT also abused to animals. Not long time ago, a mainlander has been caught here for beating a stray cat seriously.
Even not talking about how they destroy our city, HK people daily life has been disturbed by them greatly ever since the day they are allowed to travel here.
They dont wait in line in shop and when you remind them to wait in line, you are the one who being scold of. They don't like to go to toilet but rather do the things on the public area (youtube has many vids about that- they defecate and pp in our streets even toilets are near around). We feel pity for that maid and lots of us trying to help and urge our police to catch the woman who did that to her. Our pain, who know or who will care? Such things happen in our land and it is by the mainlander again. We can't stop and control them to come here to destroy our land. We protest again and again but no one will care.Maybe this is our density. In this sense, Hong Kong people are actually also being abused everyday.:(
Sincerely wish that maid will be recover soon and hope HK people will not be wronged again,though i know it is impossible ,considering the huge numbers of mainlanders rushing here everyday.

Some maids in Hong Kong "even sleep in unsuitable spaces such as the bathroom, toilets, veranda, corridor, kitchen and storage rooms, with only makeshift beds on top of ovens, cupboards or bathtubs".
That reminds me of the Monty Python sketch where living in a corridor was considered luxury... Comedy describes the world accurately sometimes...
The poor Indonesian maids seem to get horrible treatment in Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, etc.
Hong Kong is a wealthy and advanced place, they have to update their laws to protect vulnerable people like maids. If they can't provide a maid with her own room with privacy and decent working conditions free from violence then no country should allow their maids to go to Hong Kong.
