Text messages sent to and from Vodafone’s network and Telecom and 2degrees mobiles were delayed this morning because of an “information technology issue”, Vodafone has confirmed.
Texts sent between Vodafone mobiles were not affected by the fault.
One customer also reported problems accessing the internet from her smartphone, but Vodafone spokeswoman Michelle Baguley said it was unaware of that being a problem.
The company’s website went offline this morning, preventing customers from topping up their accounts over the internet, but was back online shortly after noon. Customers were also unable to top up their pre-pay accounts by text message, Baguley said.
Baguley said the technical difficulties began at 8.30am. The company was unable to advise customers of the fault through its website because that was offline, but had posted an advisory on its Facebook page. The company did not advise media of the outage.
