General questions
Q: Can I sell a product with a foreign plug type in New Zealand?
A: No. Domestic and similar appliances that are being imported into New Zealand must be safe for use in New Zealand without the use of a plug adaptor.
Plugs and fittings have been listed as high risk articles that require a formal approval before they are able to be sold in New Zealand. Plugs intended for use outside of New Zealand and Australia do not comply with recognised safety standards and cannot be legally sold. As a result the sale of appliances fitted with foreign plug types is not permitted in New Zealand.
