You can not simply get divorced in NEw Zealand while you are waiting to receive your Permenanet Residence Visa (used to be called IRRV), as you will have to separate for two years before lodging your application for divorce in the Family Court. The waiting period for IRRV and for the divorce overlaps.
However, if you choose to apply for divorce overseas such as in China, there is no requirement for a two year separation period and it does not affect your IRRV.
