An Auckland couple fighting to prove their love is the real thing are moving to Dunedin to continue their battle.
Immigration New Zealand declined Indian national Balwinder Singh's application for a work visa under the partnership category because it did not believe his marriage to New Zealander Glyn Kessell was genuine, The New Zealand Herald reports.
Singh is 22, while his wife, who he married within three months of meeting last year, is 59.
Immigration New Zealand said the "significant age gap" was one of the reasons for denying him a work visa.
The couple planned to "fight to the end" to prove their relationship was real, but they had been put under serious financial stress because Singh could not work without a visa.
"We definitely have money issues and cannot pay our rent, and at one point we were owing our landlord over $8000," Singh told the Herald.
"We are moving to Dunedin because my wife has been offered a job there, and we are hoping that would keep us going until I get my visa."
