[size=12.307692527770996px]Two men who held up a Palmerston North restaurant at gunpoint could have been involved in more illegal activity in the city recently, police say.

[size=12.307692527770996px]The owners of China Town, on the corner of Cuba and Pitt streets, were closing the restaurant late on Friday night when two men entered the restaurant.

[size=12.307692527770996px]Detective Johnny Oram said one of the men had a gun, which he used to threaten the owners.

[size=12.307692527770996px]The men allegedly pushed the owners into a corner and forced them to hand over money from the till. It was not known how much was taken.

[size=12.307692527770996px]Mr Oram said they then fled in a waiting vehicle, which was driven up Lombard St to Featherston St.

[size=12.307692527770996px]"There, they turned left and we are unsure where they went from there," he said.

[size=12.307692527770996px]"Obviously they were going like a bat out of hell."

[size=12.307692527770996px]The vehicle was described as a black saloon with a wide body and rear spoiler.

[size=12.307692527770996px]Mr Oram said people in the area might have seen it before or after the alleged robbery.

[size=12.307692527770996px]"The vehicle would have been in the area for some time prior to committing the offence and would have drawn attention when it left."

[size=12.307692527770996px]A similar-looking vehicle - possibly the same one - had been seen around the city the past two weeks at other "incidents", he said. "We don't know if it is linked, but we will be looking into that."

[size=12.307692527770996px]The owners of China Town were too busy at the weekend to talk to the Manawatu Standard. They had the restaurant open on Saturday and yesterday despite their ordeal.
