LZ, if you are wanting to find a job to get your PR, you might want to consider getting a job as a sys admin/desktop support/helpdesk etc.
If you happen to be in Auckland and need to talk to someone to get some free advise re this, feel free to PM me and ask me out for coffee (note: i have about 15 years IT experience in NZ and started off as a desktop support too).
Do CCNA only if it really appeals to you or you are super into networking. I usually recommend people to do CCNA only after they have done most of the IT certification that are relevant to their experience (note: hardly any entry level cisco support type role on the NZ market).
You can download most of the books or CBT (training videos) from the internet. Give us a shout if there's anything else you are still unsure about. Good luck.
