temp, contractor and perm are three different employment relationship/contract
temp is for emergency cover only, or for entry level, minimum training required role. pay by hours. temp is hr agent's employee. there is no direct employment relationship between temp and the company they are working at. the company will pay the agency extra commission on each temp they are using.
contractor is normally required to cover a certain period, ie, maternity leave, long sick leave of other perm staff. once the fixed term completed, company may extend the contract. contractor can be paid by a agreed hours, or based on their real work hours. Some employers may choose to offer a perm job once the contract finished. contractor has employment relation with the company they are working with, but normally has limited staff benefit.
Perm staff has a contract with no fixed term attached, normally entitle to more staff benefit, ie. extra paid maternity leave, insurance, etc. employer provides more training or career opportunity to perm than the contractors. but perm rarely gets overtime pay, in the best scenario, they get day in lieu.
part time and full time is about the working hours, 40 hours per work is normally a full time. otherwise is part time.作者: CoolingPad 时间: 2013-3-20 21:36:52
Staff entitlement should outlined on your contract, if you are a temp through a HR angency to the company, you will not get staff benefit as the perm, it is not about your working hours, but who your employer is.
Your entitlement of lunch break, sick leave and annual leave is most likely the only thing which impacted by your working hours. You can find the detail on government employment relationship website.作者: 我就是你 时间: 2013-3-21 23:45:03
Not necessary, some companies prefer contractor and temp for its flexibility. Besides nz market is still slow, it is much difficult to get the recruitment budget for a perm role then three yrs ago.
And some industries has natural high staff turnover, or demand seasonal workforce, they just use temp instead.作者: CoolingPad 时间: 2013-3-22 19:19:37
Depends, performance based bonus, long service leave, extract maternity leave, redundancy pack, health or risk insurance, company discounted product or service, etc. ie, bank normally have staff rate for personal loan and mortgage, free insurance. It varies between companies and industries. I house training or professional training is also part of benefit which normally not available to temps.
Temp normally has only the basic which is entitled and protected by employment law, it is not a ideal position, but is a good start point for grads. Good temps may get chance to transfer to a perm role.作者: CoolingPad 时间: 2013-3-23 09:15:27
