Dear licensed immigration adviser,
I am writing to let you know that Immigration New Zealand will be increasing immigration fees by an average of 16.7 percent from 2 July.
The rise is needed to continue to reflect the cost of delivering immigration services and address a shortfall in revenue caused by lower than forecast numbers of visa applications. As you know New Zealand has not been immune from the global financial crisis. Migrants have been less willing and able to migrate and fewer job offers have been available here.
The increase will also enable us to maintain our improvement in the timeliness and quality of decision-making. We’re not expecting the rise to have an effect on application volumes, which are forecast to recover in the next few years and to rise by an average of 3.3 percent over the next three years across all visa types. Even with this increase New Zealand’s fees will remain broadly comparable to competitor countries, and it is important to note that around 80 percent of visitors will not be affected by the increases anyway as they travel visa free.
I appreciate that this will come as unwelcome news, but I want to assure you that we will do everything we can to ensure that we continue to provide a first class service to all our customers.
