Got an offer from on of them. Is it easy to go to another big 4 after a year or two? Will they not like you since you are from their competitor?

I wonder if they ever give you the real reason...............Have you applied a role with them before?

You need luck.Their core business is writing report.Your English have to be as good as native speaker.I guess it is the main reason for people who can not get in.If you are born here or come to NZ when you are in primary school.Then just reapply next year.

Thanks mate.....the HR said I am the next on the list....if any of them decline the offer......then I'm in.....that's why I am still invited to the evening......I just wonder if the HR said this shit to everyone they rejected......

I passed the verbal test etc...........just was not the partner's favourite.......that's my feeling.......

What you've been told (as that you are next on the list and may get the position if anyone chose not to accept the offer) could be true. It is not a typical reason HR will use to reject you if you are not very close to the get the offer. I see no reason why you are not going to the event night, at least it is free drinks and foods.

On the other hand, I am partially agree with ybbest's comments about that the core business for big 4 is report writing. Not sure which position you've applied, but grades hardly get chance to actually write deliverables. What matters more is your technical skill sets, communication skill and whether you have real passion about the job.

Down to the end, it is always about how you present yourself and how to persuade people to hire you. As you've probably been to told in a few occasions, it is not about how you look like, it is about how you sounds like. I can not speak of all others, but I think this is applicable for big 4 or at least some of them. And do not over prepare, partners have interviewed too many people and probably seen most tricks people tried to impress them, they are more interested about who you really are and whether you will be fit in his/her team.

Just my 5 cents.

Thanks....very useful information......I agree with you....I think I was not open enough when I had the interview with the partner.......

Well, like probably most people on this forum, I've been NZ for around 10 years. I was not born here or came here when I was very young and that's the reason I am partially agree ybbest's comments :)

i work for a big 4, and don't agree that the core business is report writing; nor do you have to have english like a native speaker. I am not, and my job doesn't revolve around report writing... it's mostly dealing with numbers. but then it depends on the department that you apply.

Is it possible to change to another department after a year or two? What is the job like in Tax?

that depends on whether another department has the capacity to take more in. also depends on your skillsets.
tax is pretty stable hours, and office based. you join a team specialising in a specific area, e.g. GST, or SME entities.

为什么不试试其他的CA firm? second tier的ACCY FIRM 也挺不错的呀！反正只要是ATO就好了，能拿CA就行！

新人大概只有5万。都是做一阵子拿完经验就转工，那薪水就会高很多。

If you've worked for one service line (say Audit) for one year and then transfer to other service line (say Tax), you won't need to start as graduate again, you usually keep your current title and progress further. People transferred from services lines all the time.

Someone working for Deloitte said that she would need to start from the bottom if she transfers to another department. I guess you are not working for Deloitte...:-) Is it easy to go to another big 4? Will they not like you since you are from their competitors?

Well done , congrat.
You do not have to work from the beginning but you have to work harder to prove yourself.This is true for anyone who has changed job.
