The Bush Inn Centre has around 30 retailers, the major ones being the Woolworths supermarket, The Warehouse, and Deka. Around half of the remainder are popular chain stores, leaving a number of shops found nowhere else, which give the mall its individual character. These include an immensely popular butcher and an equally popular hairdresser--which must be one of the cheapest in Christchurch!
City Mall
Premier central city mall
Cashel Street Christchurch
T: +64 (0)3 379 9629
From the Bridge of Remembrance and the nightclubs and bars on Oxford Terrace to the base of High Street, Cashel Street is closed to vehicle access, making it Christchurch's premier pedestrian mall. It provides access to a number of inner city shopping arcades, department stores and quality specialty stores, as well as bars, cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating. During Christchurch's annual Buskers' Festival, the mall comes alive with some of the world's best street entertainers.
Riccarton Mall has been around for decades--not that you would know it. It has always managed to move with the times; thereby maintaining it's popularity. Now with 85 shops, it is the largest mall in Christchurch.
Buzzing with activity even on a quiet day, most major chain stores are represented--from home appliances, to books, to fashion--as well as department stores such as Kmart, Farmers, and a Pak 'n Save supermarket. Stores selling similar items tend to be grouped together, making systematic shopping easy.

South City Centre
Self-contained and central
555 Colombo St Christchurch 8001

The only self-contained mall with a supermarket within the "four avenues," which define the central city, the South City Centre is often a very busy place. Amongst the approximately 50 stores, there is a range of the popular chain stores, dominated by the Warehouse and a New World supermarket. But there are some independent businesses as well--for a taste of local seafood head for the excellent open-plan fishmongers. Anyone shopping with children under the age of six will appreciate the fenced adventure playground located near the food court.

Over eighty shops
Corner Marshlands Road and New Brighton Road Christchurch 8001

If you have a diverse shopping list, chances are you will be able to find everything you need under one roof at this popular suburban shopping complex.
Inside, it is light and spacious beneath the enormous palm trees that name the mall. Two stores dominate--an excellent Big Fresh supermarket and the Kmart department store--but there are over 80 others including the satellite stores situated around the car park. Refresh yourself at the food court while admiring the marvellous feature fountain.
Stores and services

With 70 shops, you might expect this mall to feel impersonal. However, Northlands manages to maintain a real relationship with the community, by providing not only a good range of retail stores, but also a number of services, like postal facilities and a cinema.
The stores, including big players: Farmers and Pak 'n Save (supermarket), flank a long corridor that runs north to south. For a break in your travels, there are two good cafes as an alternative to the food court in the middle of the mall.

Once of average size, Merivale Mall is now dwarfed by many of its counterparts. Having run out of space in which to expand, this complex concentrates on what it does well--fashion. Leading off a spacious and elegantly marbled atrium, you will find a range of (mainly women's) fashion stores in the mid- to upper-price range. The queen of them all is Quinn's, a Mecca for the style-conscious women of Merivale and Fendalton. Other outlets include a Fresh Choice supermarket with an excellent wine section.

Hornby Mall
Plenty of shopping out west
418 Main South Road Christchurch 8004
T: +64 (0)3 349 7288 / F: +64 (0)3 349 8735
The recently redeveloped Hornby Mall, a medium-sized suburban shopping complex in the western suburbs of Christchurch, is home to 40 specialty shops. Of these the major tenants are New World Supermarket, The Warehouse, Briscoes and Deka.
During the school holidays there is usually plenty of entertainment for the kids, with regular children's stage acts and promotions. Otherwise you can take the family to the three-cinema complex upstairs. Parking is a tad chaotic, so be wary if you are unfamiliar with the surrounds.
Lots to do and buy
Corner Linwood Avenue & Buckleys Road Christchurch 8001

Eastgate is a rapidly expanding mall in the central eastern suburb of Linwood. The best feature of this mall is its simple layout allowing for easy navigation. The walkway takes you on a circuit of the complex and ensures that you will not miss out on any bargains on offer.
Eastgate holds 47 retailers with its prime tenants being Countdown supermarket, Deka and the soon to be completed Warehouse store. For the kids there is a large Time Out centre and the city's first and largest McDonalds. Parking is plentiful and there are many public amenities surrounding the plaza.
Big name bargains
409 Main South Road Christchurch 8004
T: +64 (0)3 349 4980 / F: +64 (0)3 349 4841
A new player in Christchurch, selling designated seconds and clearance fashion items, Dress Mart's main purpose is to group all of the big name bargains and house them in a comfortable retail environment. Inside are stores like Calvin Klein, Max, Esprit and Andrea Biani. All together there are 30 retailers, promising between 30% and 70% off regular store prices.
Apart from fashion there is also a record store and a book store at which to throw your hard-earned dollars. The mall is situated in Hornby, easily reached via the bus system.
