Tribunal referee Charles Gower ordered Dell to pay Hamilton customer Martin Caws $900 after it refused to repair his computer because it was outside its manufacturer's warranty. Mr Gower said five years was a reasonable time to expect a computer to last.
Under the Consumer Guarantees Act, consumer goods are required to last for a "reasonable period", regardless of warranties.
