Two things helped me other than heat, masage and rest were:
Check if there is white 'dot' on your nipple. If yes, it is a tiny bit of dried milk that blocked the duct, get it out using a sterilised needle when your breast is full. You'll need to massage the nipple a bit to let the milk down, then poke the white bit out with the needle, and squeeze it to make sure the blokcked duct is cleared. Normally you'll see the watery "fore-milk" from this spot while other ducts are producing milky "hind milk". It's because this duct has been blokcked and the formilk has been stored too long.
If you are not sure how to do it, go to see a nurse or GP. It must be taken out otherwise that duct would always be blocked.
A product called "Lecithin" from health shop helps thinner the fat to come through cells easier. Therefore it helps to avoid or reduce the blocked duct.
Also, Cabbage leaf can help to ease the pain, especially at night; and baby's sucking ALWAYS much much better than the best machine.

And are you sure you don't have enough milk?
I felt the same in the first month becasue my son seemed to be hungry all the time - every two hours. And I've got blicked duct all the time. It turned out actually I had OVER SUPPLY instead of lack of milk. There are watery fore-milk to ease baby's thirsty at the beginning of the milk, then it turned to a white milky "hind milk" which is for his hungry tummy. Because of the huge amount milk I have produced, my son only got to the foremilk part even after 15-20 mimutes sucking. Of course he felt hungry very soon! At that stage, using a pump actually makes it WORSE. And too much foremilk gives him sore stomach as well - so he could not sleep properly and screamed a lot (fart a lot too!:-))
My problem was solved by only offering one side of breast per 6 hours. (some mums offer one side per feed). Breast were full and sore at the first two weeks but then the body got used to it and adjusted to the right amount of milk the baby needs.
Give yoursefl and your baby at least 8 weeks to "match" each other. Very often it will work out smoothly and naturally. Pump can help, but also can disturb the "matching".
By the way, my son was born 5.21kg... I guess my body though such a big baby would need a huge amount of milk.:-)作者: annie0002 时间: 2011-11-24 13:48:03
