$39 for Two-Course Japanese Cuisine plus a Carafe of Sake or Two Japanese Beers at Sakanaya, Grafton ($79 value)

has anyone been there before? how is the food

I went there with a voucher bought from Grabone... Frankly, I was unhappy about their services and the size of the food... from the website it says " Food must be consumed with any alcohol purchased." I assume everybody knows that it is saying if you order alcohol then you must order food, but not the other way around. But in the restaurant we were forced to order alcohol (the waiter said you must order alcohol because this is our condition, we are giving you a discount so you must follow our rules!!) How ridiculous!
We argued with them coz this is not what we were expecting. Please note we already ordered green tea before that (which charge $2 each) Damn why we have to order alcohol if we don't drink at all?!?! At the end they had to give up coz we were just not gonna order any alcohol but we were so unhappy abt this experience... Plus the size of every dishes was relatively small, comparing to other decent restaraunt in Auckland, I have to say it is really small...

Um.... The food tasted OK though we just didn't like the way we were treated...
Not gonna go there again.

不喜欢groupon这个团购网站, 除非看到非常值得买的....
因为之前买过一个DEAL还介绍朋友去买了, 本来应该拿到$10的, 因为朋友也买了...
后来说FAIL了, 打电话过去也没给我$10, 一大堆理由, 有点被欺骗的感觉.

from my understanding , i think it means if you are going to order food, alcohols also have to purchased.

Not the same way as you have tought ~.... cos food is written in passive tone ...

No la. People have asked the same questions on the website in numerous times but the answer from Grabone is : If you're going to order alcohol, then you must order food as well. Definitely not the other way around.

同意2楼。我上次也在grabone买了2张，先去吃了一次晚餐，超过了那个价格，补了差价，还楞是没吃饱。
后来去了一次午餐，个人感觉午餐比晚餐合算一点。
不过2次我都没有order alcohol。

groupon那个$10的事情，我之前也没收到，后来打电话过去，他们给我补上了。

{:8_397:} Their dinner box set doesn't come with rice and their rice meal is like 1/3 of the full bowl... 没吃饱... Maybe sushi rolls are better... but not gonna try again.
