visit the Kilbirnie Aquatic Centre and learn about varied indoor activities
take a guided tour at the Newtown Library and find out more about its services
have fun, meet other newcomers and learn how to get around Wellington city, your new home, by bus
enjoy a Kiwi BBQ at Shorland Park in Island Bay.
This tour is open to families who have moved from overseas and those who have come from other regions within New Zealand.

SSNZ informs you that the Public Transport Orientation Tour on Saturday for newcomers in Wellington is postponed due to the Christchurch earthquake until further notice. Many staff members across the Council are involved in relief efforts and are putting in long hours to assist in a number of ways.
Support for newcomers affected by the earthquake:
If you are unable to contact a friend or relative in the Christchurch area, call the Red Cross Person Enquiry Line 0800 REDCROSS (0800 733 276). Red Cross will be able to tell you if they have registered with Civil Defence. Please do this before reporting friends and relatives missing.

For those with limited English skills you can phone the interpreting service Language Line The interpretation service is normally available on weekdays between 9am and 6pm and those hours are now being extended for five hours on Saturdays, between 9am and 2pm. Visa extensions for foreign nationals affected by earthquake
Immigration New Zealand is issuing automatic six month visa extensions for any foreign national whose work, visitor or student visa application cannot be processed because of the Christchurch earthquake.
