I know there are many people in this forum working in the IT industry. So I liked to conduct a survey to see what the salary level for chinese IT professional in NZ. This will help us to identify what are the hot skills to have and to see if we are currently under paid/over paid etc.

So please be honest if you liked to participate

Start with myself, here is an example

Job Title: IT Consultant
Years of commercial experience: 4
Salary: 75k plus 8% bonus
skills: basic java skills, hibernate, web services(Axis 2), some ETL experience (Informatica), general consultancy skills (in other word, talking bullshit and alway share responsibility around)

If the purpose is to identify what are the hot skills, wouldn't it make more sense to just refer to some NZ based IT salary survey websites (e.g. http://itsalaryreport.co.nz/ or http://www.hays.net.nz/salary/default.aspx). Doing this on just chinese worker might give you a narrow view of which skill is worth acquiring as your candidates are targeted and not randomly selected (i.e. lots of chinese working in a specific IT area only).

Job Title: Network security architect (not my exact title)
Years of commercial experience: 12
Salary: (110k-130k) + 15% bonus + other employee perks.

Well, survey is survey, it doesnt reflect chinese IT workers situtaion, I thought it'll be more realistic and direct to see how chinese IT worker is doing by asking and sharing on the forum.

But yes, this is bias, but by at the end of the day, we are all chinese, so i guess being bias might not be a bad thing...

sure, there will be those extreme high paid cases, especially some of those contractors with rare skill who gets paid $150 to $200 an hour... but i dont know any chinese gets thats, maybe there are some people on this forum gets that much.. lets see...

Honestly, I don't think salary means much for IT professionals. It is what technology we bring in to the future that matters. However, you're asking about IT workers.... I am not too sure about that. For most IT professionals, we'll prefer like to have some share in the company, both in concepts contribution as well as in the financial market, rather then 100k salary or bonus .

more or less, 差不多，一般来说从毕业开始每年一万左右的升幅（平均来说也可能就是一年加5000 下一年跳槽加了15000...)
按现在的市场价一般纯做技术的大概到100-120的就到顶了（能过110的都已经较少了）

这话说的一点不错这个行业里的确很多人都比较牛逼哄哄的（arrogant )
原因也许是有科学依据的做IT要很强的逻辑思维（不仅仅做开发的做网络做业务分析设计测试维护支持 ... 所有方面都要求这个）就是要左脑比较发达左脑锻炼多了也许就造成了右脑相对活动会少一点而情商靠的主要是右脑所以 ...

这是我猜的好听点是intelligent guess...

i agree with u, IT people generally have low EQ, i guess its the type of work we engaged in everyday that make us the way we are. We can deal with complex problem solving but do not have much skills on relationship building etc

我觉得做IT的，每天都要对着死板的电脑，一就是一，二就是二，很多时间都是用人脑去模拟电脑来编程，解决问题，时间久了，人脑就潜意识地跟电脑那样思想，当然情商就没有那么高了。

i think it depends really. for IT people,if you do not have much social life outside of work, then it is highly becoming a computer geek (low EQ possibly)

From what I observe, some of my colleagues (kiwis or western), computer / programming etc is all about their life, only interested in technical issues, those ppl who have not much interaction with others and social life, they tend to speak or act a bit not that smart... But the majority of IT ppl around me are fine. yeah, so i think it just the personal life choice.

I think it really depends on what sort of company you are working at.If you are at services company and you would like to be promoted or increase your salary band in the company , you have to learn client facing skills，e.g. pre-sale engagement ，BA consulting,build spec... .But it is not from sales perspective ,rather it is from technology perspective.
It also depends on what sort of technology you are working on , if you are a asp.net developer , chances are you do not have many opportunities to do client facing tasks , however if you are working on a product ,like Microsoft SharePoint ,CRM ,NAV,AX,BizTalk...,then you have to have an in-depth knowledge to become a BA \consultant.It is much easier to have such chances to do client facing work.
So my suggestion are ,if you feel like you do not want to code for life then try to be a product specialist developer rather than a general Swiss army knife developer.So you will have many more options available for your career in the long run.

You do not have to.Just learn sth you can move to different team within your company and you wont get a pay-cut and still enjoy work.But I guess you get paid heaps @ the moment then whatever you work does not really matter.The more you get paid the more you will shit about your job.

貌似SAP freelancer顧問的PAY基本上都差不多是這個數吧...熱門稀缺的模塊，稀缺的語言，可以高點。另外，我以前有個同事FICO模塊18年經驗的free拿到了我所知道的最高paid USD185/hr，人家可是從SAP baby做到ECC6.0了。

10 years ago, I was young (mid 20s), just graduated for a few years and very confused about my career and future. I was extremely envy of that salary, and I don't know if I could ever reach that level of salary in my life.

Thankfully after years and years of pursuing my career and perseverance, I'm at that level now and I have everything I wanted (wanted since my mid 20s).

To all the young people out there, never stop dreaming and never stop reach for the star.
