不是这次地震看了TVNZ的新闻,我还真不知道,原来Christchurch是第二大城市...

"Meanwhile, as darkness fell in New Zealand's second-largest city, a curfew was put in place for central Christchurch from 7pm until 7am tomorrow.

The curfew is mainly to protect people from falling debris, and anyone found in the CBD may be arrested."

Of course, Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand, with 1.2 million people over there (roughly nearly 3 times of that of Christchurch) - I think it also explains why you guys need to fly to Auckland first before coming down to Christchurch/going back to China but there is simply no direct flight between Christchurch and any Chinese cities? (given the small population of Christchurch and even smaller number of Asians living there means these flights would not be able to sustain - although I realise there are flights betwen ChCh and Japan...)

However, Auckland is not really the largest in the Australasia in terms of population as Sydney got a population of 4 million +) - it is only its government will become the largest after the new "Auckland Council" set up on the 1st November this year, which will replace the current 7 city councils over there... thats why people said it will be "the largest".

wellington既是region的名称也是城市的名称,和auckland一样,但是christchurch是城市名称,region是canterbury,惠灵顿region人口是38万多,是由四个小城市组成的(Wellington City,Wellington Harbour,Porirua City和Porirua Harbour),奥克兰region人口140万,也是有四个小城市组成(Auckland City,Manukau City,North shore City,Waitakere City)所以从城市角度看人口最多的是Auckland city,有44万人口,Christchurch city第二,38万人口,Wellington city还没有manukau City的36万人多,只有17万.但是从area来讲,Auckland是140万第一,惠灵顿是38万6千第二,基督城38万第三.

There are also direct flights between: Christchurch and Singapore.
Christchurch and Dubai (Many people use this route to go to UK)

It should be 7 'cities', not just 4 - Rodney District at the north, Papakura and Frankin District at the south...

After all, they are just the administrative boundaries and will disappear on 1/11 this year.
