Changes to your Student Loan entitlement
The Government announced changes to Student Loan eligibility in May 2010 that may affect your Student Loan entitlement.
To get a Student Loan for study starting on or after 1 January 2011, students need to have held permanent resident status for at least two years, lived in New Zealand for at least two years and be ordinarily resident in New Zealand.
Your current Student Loan for 2010 will not be affected by this change. You will still remain eligible to receive a Student Loan until the end date of your 2010 study.
Students who do not meet the permanent resident criteria but received a Student Loan in 2010 and are continuing with the same course of study in 2011 may still be able to continue to receive a Student Loan until they complete their qualification or for two years, whichever is earlier.
If you are going to study in 2011 we may ask you to provide additional evidence when you apply for your Student Loan.
