You may be able to claim one of the following exemptions using a statutory declaration:
you can prove you are no longer the car's owner;
someone else was driving the car and you are able to name that person;
after making proper enquiries you are able to find out who was driving.
Speed camera infringements: A statutory declaration form is sent out with speeding tickets to advise driver details. It must be signed and witnessed before the responsibility of the ticket can be transferred onto anyone else.
Notice issued by a police officer: If the driver of the car gave false information when stopped, you should write to the Police Infringement Bureau, PO Box 9147, Wellington. Include:
Ticket number;
Details of the vehicle stopped (registration number, make and model);
Your name and address;
A copy of your photo identification, such as driver's licence or passport photo page;
If possible, proof that you could not have been the driver, such as a letter from your employer or timesheets.
The officer who issued the ticket will be consulted and your ticket put on hold until it is sorted out.
